Stewart Petrie came in last season and impressed – his signings this term have also. Will the Mo, be on the go, up to League One? This is my outlook on how things stand at Links Park right now.
With Jordan Millar and Allan Fleming batttling it out for the goalkeeping position, it shows the strength and depth Montrose have in their side this term.
I think the one area in the squad in which they are lacking cover is the defence. The full-back areas seem to be the main area of concern for me, with only Iain Campbell and Sean Dillon looking comfortable in those roles. Andrew Steeves can also play there, but is also just as comfortable at centre-half.
In midfield, Martyn Fotheringham and Jamie Redman have came in to add further experience to the middle of the park with captain Paul Watson and Terry Masson fighting it out for the remaining slots. Ryan Ferguson, Liam Callaghan, Kerr Hay and Connor McLaren provide options of width and creativity while influential strikers Gary Fraser and Chris Templeman are up front.
I think that if everybody can stay fit for the Gable Endies, and Petrie can add a little bit more depth to the defence, then the squad is well equipped to handle this League Two campaign with a push for the play-off’s a likely ambition, in my opinion.
