on bounce straight back to League One? The bookies seem to think so…. Here is my thoughts heading into the League Two campaign tomorrow.
With the addition of Greg Fleming, the loss of Graeme Smith has been made easier with a top-class goalkeeper joining the ranks. An improvement – maybe… but certainly not any worse off, are Peterhead.
David McCracken has been brought in to lead the side defensively but this is clearly the weakest area of the squad, to date. Mason Robertson and Jamie Stevenson have had to help out to cover so far, and with only Scott Ross and full-back Jason Brown as natural defenders also in the squad, I feel this position still needs two or three reinforcements to bring it up to scratch with the rest of the squad.
When you look at the midfield, the defensive options are impressive for this level with Simon Ferry; Jordan Brown and Paul Cairney with Scott Brown, Willie Gibson;; Nicky Riley and Jamie Stevenson in attack. In addition to this, you also have Rory McAllister up front with Robertson, Russell McLean and Allan Smith providing different dimensions to the attack.
Overall, I feel the bookies are likely to be correct, purely on the middle-front options overall. The lack of defensive options may cost Jim McInally’s men over the course of the season but if they can recruit two or three more natural defenders, I cannot see past the side from the North of Scotland picking up the League Two trophy come May.
