A solid recruitment drive has saw Stenny put themselves in a great position, as Ladbrokes League Two gets set to kick off. Here are my thoughts on Brown Ferguson’s transfer dealings, so far.
Chris Smith coming in to the squad has certainly improved this area compared to the goalkeepers available last season, in my opinion – arguably, barring David Crawford. With young Lewis McMinn in reserve, I think it is a strong standard between the sticks at Ochilview this season.
Defensively, Stenny have recruited the Dunlop brothers from Albion Rovers but I stilll feel defensively is probably the Larbert side’s downfall right now. I feel another one or two additions in this area, to compliment and cover players such as Ross Meechan and David Marsh, would see Stenhousemuir set up fully for the season ahead.
In midfield, Nathan Blockley has been brought in alongside Martin Scott and Mark Ferry, to add exxperience and guile to the Stenny midfield. Eddie Ferns and Mark McGuigan offer a different option with either player comfortable up front or out wide, with Jamie Longworth and Colin McMenamin the more natural goalscorers amongst the squad in a strong forward line.
I think, overall, the squad still needs added to. I don’t think Stenny are far away – with some cover defensively and maybe another wide option, I see no teason why Stenhousemuir cannot go and challenge Peterhead this term for the title.
